Ahead of the weekend’s ordinary general meeting, vice-president Eduard Romeu yesterday gave an overview of the club’s current situation, not least financially. Here he was pleased that great progress has been made.
It is Eduard Romeu who is responsible for the economy in the club and therefore it was he who presented the financial highlights from last season’s accounts and the budget for the current season.
The accounts for the 2022/23 seasons show a solid profit of 304 million euros, which is more than budgeted and it has made it possible to reduce the huge debt, but Romeu is not satisfied yet. ‘We have succeeded in closing the gap, but we must continue to work on reducing the debt further to a sustainable level’ came from him.
He was pleased that the income has exceeded expectations. ‘Thanks to Barca’s brand, we have had record revenues this season in terms of merchandise and ticket sales,’ he said.
Last season’s accounts were characterized by large revenues from the sale of, among other things, Barca TV and TV rights, but that will not be repeated this season. ‘We only count on ordinary income, no extraordinary or sales,’ he explained.
The budget for the season shows an expected profit of 11 million euro and Romeu does not expect positive deviations from it. ‘We have to achieve our objectives, but must be aware that it has to happen in a complicated year with the move to the Estadi Olímpic. We have rectified the situation, but we must continue our work,’ he concluded.
