Gavi suffered a serious knee injury in Sunday’s international match between Spain and Georgia. After 26 minutes of the match, the Barca player twisted his right knee incorrectly and it quickly became clear that something was completely wrong.
It was in an otherwise harmless situation where Gavi, in a clear offside position, tried to tame a high pass. It also succeeded with the chest, but in the same action Gavi twisted his knee and immediately burst into pain.
Gavi was subsequently unable to support himself on his right leg and it was clear that something serious was involved. The pain was evident on the midfielder’s face, and he couldn’t hold back the tears when he left the field either.
Reports from the Spanish and Catalan media are that Gavi has torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee. According to the newspaper AS, the Spanish Football Federation has already informed Barca that Gavi has torn the cruciate ligament.
If, as expected, it is a torn cruciate ligament, Gavi will have to take a break of between six and eight months. This will mean that Gavi will miss the rest of the season for Barca as well as the Euro’s 2024 and Olympics this summer.
