Barca legend Carles Puyol has given an interview to the newspaper Marca, in which he comments both on Gavi’s injury, the tough schedule the players are exposed to, and the team’s recent playing problems.
Here is what Puyol said:
Gavi’s serious knee injury:
”Injuries are part of football and sport, unfortunately. It was an unfortunate situation and there is no reason to make more out of it. I can only cheer him up and ask him to be patient. He will surely come back well. He is very young and then you recover faster, but he must not force anything”.
Do the many fights cause more damage?
”There are many matches with great intensity, but I have played many seasons with many matches where there were no problems. I got more injuries as the playing time became more dosed, so things go as they go. Everyone has a responsibility, but there is a lot of technology, tests and analysis that you can assess, but we must not forget that injuries are part of football”.
The team’s playing problems:
”There are periods when you are better than others. Such is sport. We will have to see how the team fares after the international break. I believe in the team and in Xavi and I think the club does too, because there is no reason to doubt him. I think Deco and the president believe in the project and that Xavi is the right person”.
The criticism of the team:
”When I played and was very young I learned that you can’t control people’s opinions. You have to focus on what you can control. Social media can take the focus away from you, so you have to isolate yourself from that”.
