The Danish Barca fans have had to scout in vain for Andreas Christensen in three out of the last five games and now there are reports that the Dane’s agent has held a meeting with the club to hear the reason for the opt-out.
Andreas Christensen sat on the bench for the entire 90 minutes as Barca defeated Porto 2-1 on Tuesday. It was not an isolated case, because it is a fact that the Danish defender has moved more to the periphery of the team, after almost being a self-written in Xavi’s starting line-up since the start of the season.
Immediately, it is the good tactics from Iñigo Martínez that have sent Christensen to the bench lately and the Dane is obviously not happy with that situation. Now the newspaper Sport says that his agent held a meeting yesterday with sports director Deco.
There is an european cup this summer and the last thing Christensen needs is to be considered a reserve player in Barca, because if playing time is scarce, it could cost him a place in Denmark’s starting line-up at the final round.
Therefore, yesterday the agent should have reversed the situation with Deco to hear about the club’s impression of Andreas Christensen and what plans there are with him. The newspaper Sport cannot tell what the answer was.
Many expect Xavi to again look in the Dane’s direction on Sunday, when Atlético Madrid visit the Estadi Olímpic, because Xavi will probably try to distribute the forces here in the tough programme.
