Xavi was very frustrated when he spoke after the 1-1 match against Valencia. He clearly felt that the team had deserved all three points, but that it was the lack of efficiency in front of goal that was to blame for the draw.
“I feel a great deal of frustration. We played a good match, but we have to be more efficient. We lack a lot when it comes to efficiency and that has characterized the whole season. We have to demand more from ourselves,” he began.
“The players are frustrated, just like I am. It’s mixed feelings, because we played a game that we could have won big, but we couldn’t close it out. It’s almost a summary of what has happened to us all season” he continued.
Here’s what Xavi also said:
Valencia’s score for 1-1:
“Their goal is our mistake. It’s the kind of mistake that costs in the league, but the problem is our efficiency, that we don’t score to make it 0-2. The same happened against Atlético at home, where we were leading 1-0 and they were close to equalize”.
Why did Barca throw away the win?
“That’s what happens when you let go. We deserved to win because we played well enough to win the game, but we need to have a lot more impact in the opponent’s box. I think we gave away two points. The one point makes us very unhappy”.
Missed by Gavi:
“We missed Gavi in all moments of the match, when it comes to intensity and character, but that is not the reason for the result. It is because we are not good enough in front of goal”.
Valencia came close to taking an early lead:
“It was a lack of concentration and that must not happen. We must do things better”.
Xavi’s mood after the match:
“I’m completely calm, but disappointed, because we played a game that had to be won, but I want to be positive. I saw good things in the game, so we’re improving”.
