The weekend’s round in the Spanish league did not go well for Barca, who, as you know, had to settle for a single point against Valencia. At the same time, both Girona and Real Madrid won their games, and they therefore draw from the Catalans.
After games and chances, Barca should have won Saturday’s away game against Valencia, but as so many times before this season, the Catalans could not score on the many chances. Therefore, the match ended 1-1 and with a single point.
On Sunday it was Real Madrid who beat Villarreal at home at the Bernabeu 4-1 without any major problems, before the leaders Girona cruised on Monday night and beat Alavés safely 3-0 at home at Estadi Montilivi.
This weekend’s results mean that Barca must now look even further for first place in La Liga. Here, Girona leads with 44 points after 17 rounds, while Real Madrid follows right behind with 42 points. Barca have to settle for third place and 35 points, which is nine points behind their Catalan neighbors at the top of the table.
This midweek, the 18th round of the league is played and here Barca must pick up a necessary win at home against Alméria, while it is not inconceivable that Girona may find it difficult in the away game against Real Betis. Real Madrid meets Alavés away.
