Pedro Rodríguez was one of the big names in Pep Guardiola’s Barca team. Now the 36-year-old is an announcer at Lazio and his career is coming to an end. Now he reveals that his big dream is to be able to finish at Barca.
Pedro was hugely successful in the seven seasons he was part of Barca’s first-team squad, because here it turned into a sea of titles, among them four championships and three Champions Leagues. In 2015 he left Barca and continued his career at Chelsea, Roma and most recently Lazio, where he is in his third season.
At the age of 36, the Spanish striker’s career is coming to an end and in an interview he does not hide what his big dream is. ‘Barca is my club and it will be very difficult to return for several reasons, including my age, but I would love to retire at Barca. It would be spectacular, but I see it very far away and very difficult,’ he said, according to the newspaper Mundo Deportivo.
‘If Xavi were to call me before I put my boots on the shelf, I would come right away, before he regrets it,’ he continues with a smile.
Finally, great praise goes to the Barca coach, who Pedro played alongside at the club. ‘I have great faith in Xavi. He is a coach who gives everything, he has good ideas about what he wants, namely to get Barca as far as possible’ he concludes.
The invitation has thus been sent to Xavi, but whether Barca’s coach feels the need for a 36-year-old Pedro in the squad is probably doubtful. However, it cannot be ruled out 100%, because if they fail to sign Vitor Roque in January, Pedro may be rented very cheaply by Lazio.
