Finally – Barca is further in the Champions League!
One of the biggest goals of the season was achieved last night with the victory over Porto. Barca have progressed from the Champions League group stage for the first time in three years and that has huge significance for the club, Xavi and his players.
After a few months of major problems with the game, Barca rose yesterday to the long-awaited level. The team played a good match against Porto, where it was exciting and evenly matched most of the way, but where they deservedly managed to pick up a 2-1 victory at home.
With this, Barca tops Group H with 12 points and this means that the team is safely through to the Champions League round of 16, even though there is still one round to go. Qualifying from the group stage has been one of the big goals this season, because it has hurt to be sent out of the tournament early two years in a row.
It means a lot to Xavi and his players to reach the important goal, because it will give some peace to the team after a long and difficult period, where the criticism has been massive.
Barca have not yet secured the attractive first place in Group H, but they can do so with just a single point in the last round, when they face Royal Antwerp away. However, should they unexpectedly lose that game, they will still top the group if Shakhtar Donetsk fail to win away to Porto in their head-to-head clash.
The final round will be played on 13 December.
