Xavi has held a press conference ahead of tomorrow night’s match against Royal Antwerp, and here he made no secret of the fact that more of the young players will probably be sent on the pitch, so that others can relax a bit.
It was an unusually short press conference Xavi held and Wednesday’s opponent from Royal Antwerp was not mentioned a word. Here’s what the Barca coach replied:
Will there be rotations against Royal Antwerp?
“We will decide that tomorrow, but now that we are qualified, it is time to give the young players the chance. We have to see how it goes in training and what feelings they have, but the normal thing will be that there will be changes in morning. The idea is to give a break to those who have played the most”.
The harsh criticism after the Girona match:
“I haven’t read anything, but it’s normal when you lose at home to Girona. The players were angry because it was a game we dominated. We did a lot of things well to win, like against Madrid, but we made mistakes in both ends”.
Why was there a change in the squad today?
“We changed our travel plans and wanted to have everyone together. Many players also wanted to come to stand together”.
What does Xavi mean by Barca being under construction?
“I’m referring to the fact that we’ve been in the Europa League for two years and that the team needs to be much more consistent. I’m not talking about us needing more time, but that the game needs to be built up. I mean we’re halfway there to create a great Barca team”.
