A few hours after Pedri had to leave the training ground earlier today with an injury, Barca have now come with an official confirmation. Here, the injury is referred to as a minor muscle injury and thus does not mean anything long-term.
As always, Barca’s medical team are very tight-lipped with their injury reports, as they came up with official confirmation on Tuesday evening that Pedri has suffered another injury. The injury comes a few weeks after he had returned from a long-term thigh injury.
“During training this morning on 19 December, first team player Pedri received a kick which provoked a minor muscle injury. The development will determine when he will be ready” it says.
This wording creates a bit of optimism, because partly the injury is referred to as being minor, partly because it was caused by a kick and therefore not an overload or a wrong movement. There is thus a chance that the damage will not be as long-lasting as first feared.
It is a given, however, that Pedri will no longer be in action in 2023. Tomorrow the team meets Almería and early Friday morning, they play an exhibition match in the USA against Mexican Club América. Pedri misses these two games.
Now time will tell where Xavi can once again dispose of Pedri in the new year.
