After the defeat in the match to Club America, where Xavi had five academy players in the starting line-up, the head coach subsequently justified his choice and expressed satisfaction with the effort despite the defeat.
It was a happy head coach who gave an interview after the team had lost the game in Dallas to Club America.
“We played a good match where we created a lot of chances and we played great football. Both teams had their chances, but the Mexicans were more cynical in front of goal and that’s why they won the match,” said Xavi, according to the club’s own website.
“These kinds of games are always something special, and it’s been a pleasure to be back in the US and play. After the game against Almeria, several of the experienced players were tired, so I thought it was time for the youngsters to step up a step forward. We work hard with the youth teams and the players who spend time with the first team are more than well prepared”, concluded Xavi.
Xavi and the players now have a much-needed Christmas break, because the next game is not until January 4, when Las Palmas lays the ground for the first game in 2024.
