Bayern Munich have been reported to be seriously interested in Ronald Araújo, who is set to solve the Germans’ defensive problems. However, the record champions should now have given up on signing the Uruguayan, at least until the summer.
The 24-year-old Araújo has, over the past few seasons, developed into one of the very best defenders in the world. The national team player is therefore also a sought-after reinforcement for most major teams in European football, including Manchester United and Bayern Munich.
The Germans have had major injury problems in defense this season, and the coach, Thomas Tuchel, has therefore identified the Uruguayan as the optimal defensive reinforcement. Bayern should also be ready to break their transfer record in the hope of securing Araújo’s signature.
However, the message from Barca has always been that they do not want to let go of the defender who is the cornerstone of Xavi’s central defence. At the same time, the Uruguayan has also constantly refused to leave Catalonia, and this has now, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg from Sky Germany, caused the Germans to give up Araújo.
However, Araújo’s performances, and his status as one of the team’s four captains, mean that the management is forced to offer him a better-paid deal, which also underlines his importance to the team. However, the negotiations should not have started for now, but it is believed to be a formality, as the Uruguayan has a burning desire to continue his career at Barca.
